About

An ornithologist is a scientist who specializes in the study of birds. Ornithology is a branch of zoology that deals with the scientific study of birds including their behavior, ecology, evolution, physiology and taxonomy. Ornithologists use a variety of tools and techniques to study birds consisting of field observations, laboratory experiments and genetic analysis. Some ornithologists study the behavior and ecology of birds in their natural habitats observing their breeding patterns, migration routes as well as feeding habits.

Others study the physiology and genetics of birds investigating their physical and biochemical characteristics as well as their relationships with other species. Moreover, ornithologists play an important role in conservation efforts to protect bird populations and their habitats. They may work with conservation organizations, government agencies or private companies to develop and implement conservation strategies, monitor bird populations and conduct research on the impacts of human activities on bird populations.
