Fostering excellence in public health education

Overview

The Asian Institute of Public Health University, situated in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, was established in 2008 with the primary objective of addressing the pressing needs in various domains of public health in the region. Originating from nearly two decades of dedicated research and training in public health, the institution sought to expand its impact not only in Odisha but also in neighboring Asian countries facing similar population health challenges. Initially founded to enhance expertise in public health, the university later achieved official recognition as a university through the AIPH University, Odisha Bill, 2017, passed by the Odisha Legislative Assembly.

Distinguished as the first public health institute in India, this university stands as a unique entity dedicated to public health education, research, and service. It plays a pivotal role in addressing population health issues with expertise spanning various domains, offering education at both Master's and Ph.D. levels. As the sole institution providing such comprehensive education in the major domains of public health, it also engages in population-based hospital and laboratory research. The university's significance is further underscored by its collaborations with renowned Indian and global healthcare associations, including AIIMS New Delhi, ICMR, WHO, UNICEF, and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Through these collaborations, the Asian Institute of Public Health University has positioned itself as a hub for advancing public health knowledge and contributing to the well-being of communities not only within India but across borders
