The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has announced admissions for its innovative and fully online undergraduate programme – the Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence – for the academic session 2025-26. This unique four-year course is designed to prepare students for the growing demand in data science and AI, offering both flexibility and global accessibility.
The Mehta Family School of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at IIT Guwahati is offering this programme, which is open to learners around the world. The last date to apply is May 30, 2025, and classes will commence from September 1, 2025. Students can register and apply through the institute’s official website: iitg.ac.in.
Programme Highlights
The course is based on a trimester system, with each term lasting 12 weeks. The curriculum includes a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and practical training, covering both foundational concepts and advanced applications in data science and artificial intelligence.
Students will learn through interactive video lectures, live sessions, and real-world case studies, delivered by IIT Guwahati faculty and leading industry experts. To further enhance learning, the programme incorporates internships, term projects, and a capstone project in the final year.
Enrolled students will also have access to widely used tools such as Jupyter Notebook, RStudio, and VS Code through Coursera labs. For more demanding computing needs, especially during capstone projects, learners can use India’s top supercomputers – PARAM Kamrupa and PARAM Ishan.
An optional four-week on-campus immersion programme is also offered, providing students with the opportunity for in-person learning and peer networking.

A key feature of the programme is its multiple exit pathways, giving students the flexibility to leave at various stages with recognised certifications:
After Year 1: Advanced Certificate in Data Science & AI
After Year 2: Diploma in Data Science & AI
After Year 3: BSc in Data Science & AI
After Year 4: BSc (Honours) in Data Science & AI
Students who exit early have the option to rejoin the programme after a one-year break and continue towards completing the degree.

Who Can Apply?
Applicants must have passed Class 12 or equivalent, with Mathematics as a compulsory subject, securing at least 60% aggregate marks from a recognised board or institution.
Candidates who are eligible for JEE (Advanced) in any year can directly secure admission.
